Know Your Candidates

The political climate at the national level is full of sniping, bickering and contributes to the dysfunction of the Congress. These two candidates embody exactly what problems we are having in government at the national level. The roster of negative characterizations about each other rather than their own positive attributes is indicative of the character they will each carry forward if elected.

Politics does not build character; it reveals it.

Another chief distinction between the Tilghman campaign and these other candidates is our focus on dialogue, compromise, and consensus.

That is what congress needs......people who build each other up vice tearing others down.

The big money candidates talk about job growth but offer no specific recommendations on how to ameliorate the situation.

Veronica Escobar has little or no concerns for the the pay of her subordinates as she raised her own salary but offered little to the rank and file AFSCME employees .

Dori Fenenbock raised the superintendents salary to a level close to that of the Presidents... yet recommends no pay to the board of trustees which is paid nothing.

Both promote policy that takes tax money from among the poorest citizens in America. Such policy positions should not be rewarded by elevation to higher office.

El Paso VA Gets 1 Out of 5 Stars in Care Rating

The subject above is the title of an El Paso Times article assessing VA healthcare delivery in El Paso.

First debate of the 16th Congressional District of Texas Democratic Primary Debate between Congressman Silvestre Reyes, Beto O'Rourke, and Jerome Tilghman.

In the video, Congressman O'Rourke had made healthcare in the VA his signature issue.

He is endorsing Veronica Escobar. By extension, she will sentence our VA healthcare delivery system to the same trajectory as Congressman O'Rourke.

My Recommended Solution:

#1. No one knows better than a veteran patron of healthcare services the quality of service expected / received. Put a veteran in the congressional seat who knows first hand the shortcomings and, as an extension, how to overcome them.

#2. In order to address the medical personnel shortfalls, I recommend that we create inducements for med people to seek employment with the VA. How? Just as our service academies and ROTC scholarships obligate users to a set number of years in service, we make the same offer and obligation to med students.

#3. We have a med school here. Med students can also do their internships via a short walk/ride from our med school to our VA hospital.

like Nike says ... "just do it."

#4. We need to especially recruit psych-sociologists-types to target the mental health needs of those who are choosing suicide over sustaining life. Average daily rate is 22. it is 2.5 times that rate for our female vets

Top 7 El Paso Issues, That Matter To You!

My contrast with others. I believe I am the better candidate because these are the issues I have found paramount to the voters and citizens of this Congressional district and I can best articulate and represent. Its difficult to claim to legitimately represent the cross section of this district if you are not talking about ...

1. IMMIGRATION POLICY: Immigration and the refugee crisis and the epidemic of violence in Latin America ... caused by the the United States drug appetite and those cartels who will terrorize and kill to control the human trafficking and narcotics transportation arteries that wind up in the veins of an addicted America. Why are Cubans, Haitians and Mexicans held to different standards for admission?

THE VIOLENCE THAT COMES FROM DRUGS AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING ... 40 or more of the 50 most violent / homicide prone cities in the world are in the countries to our south. This creates a tidal wave of Latino refugees who are fleeing for their lives.

Protecting Dreamers' Top Priority

We discussed this issue in 2012 and were on the same page then. My suggestion to Beto and the other challengers was ...

Instead of deporting 800,000 x $130,000 (per capita costs per student) in property tax dollars, that we staple a green card to their diplomas ... keep and cultivate the talent pool and get some ROI from those property tax dollars.

If we deport 800,000 how would we recoup the costs of their education? How would we replace the losses to the labor force . We can't make babies and immediately convert them to the laborers contributing to the GDP.

People .. we need to look at this thing not through the lenses of emotional sensitivity, but thru the clear eyes of economic common sense ... for the common good of the country.

I discussed this issue with a FedEx Regional Sales Manager Bob Requa. We agreed that we have a skills deficit in our labor pool. That whatever talent we cultivate... we need to keep.

Old issue ... from 2012 ... old, but not out of date.
